In the aeromedical center, the dental activity consists of an oral examination to detect any dental defects and maxilla diseases and therefore to indicate a treatmentas soon as possible. This is emphasizes the prophylactic and the preventive nature of the examination.
Moreover, the dentist insists on motivation and oral hygiene of the patients sending them to the appropriate specialized consults (periodontics, orthodontics, etc ...).
The aeromedical dentist is also involved in the monitoring of the pilots ‘dental care and can evaluateits quality in relation to the needs of aviation safety:
• The sealing of the root canal fillings: prevention of the occurrence of dental barotrauma (dental pains due to thepressurevariation).
• The quality of the (crowns, bridges, etc...).
Finally, the dentist gathers a maximum of oral data: occlusion quality, mastication coefficient, odontogram, dental photography (RVG, STV) which is a kind of print of every pilot. It can be useful and essential forensic examination for identification in case of mishap and air crash.
