At altitude, the visual function of the pilotmay be disturbed by many factors such as: the decrease of the partial pressure of oxygen, the pressure variations, by the speed, accelerations, etc...
Considering the aeromedical constraints, the medical flight screening in ophthalmology aims to recognize and disqualifycandidates with structural and / or functional visual abnormalities that can compromise aviation safety, as well as pilots with medical conditions that might worsen or reoccur.
To achieve these goals, we practice a complete ophthalmologic examination including in admission:
- Far and near visual acuity;uncorrected and corrected visual acuity after instillation of mydriatic.
- Clinicalexamination
- Retinaexam
- Cornealtopography
- Visual fieldtests
- Colorvision testing
- Depthperception ; night vision evaluation
- Optometry evaluation
These tests are repeatedperiodically during routine examinations depending on the age and the applicant's specialty.
The flying fitness decision is made based on the results of the differentperformed examinations and the different policies.
